Sebelum "Teenage Dream" dirilis sebagai track pembuka pada album kedua Katy Perry yang dirilis oleh Capitol pada 24 Agustus 2010 di North America dan 30 Agustus 2010 secara mendunia, "Teenage Dream" telah dirilis sebagai single resmi kedua pada 23 Juli 2010 dengan format digital download dan CD single oleh Capitol, dan nyatanya "Teenage Dream" yang beraliran pop, eclectropop dan pop rock, sampai saat ini mampu bertengger pada posisi 2 di U.S. Billboard Hot 100, kemungkinan untuk naik keposisi yang lebih tinggi, bisa saja memungkinkan untuk tejadi.
Katy Perry menulis lagu ini sekalian bernostalgia pada saat dia waktu remaja yang berangan-angan memiliki future husband seperti Russell Brand. Nyatanya, dalam video klip yang di direksi oleh Yoann Lemoine, Josh Kloss seorang model seksi asal Amerika menjadi pemeran Katy Perry interest lover, dan ada adegan dimana Katy Perry sedang kneeling di pasir sambil curi-curi pandang melihat Josh Kloss yang hanya dibalut speedo berwarna oranye. Untuk video klipnya sendiri telah di publikasikan pada 10 Agustus 2010 melalui MTv pada pukul 8 malam dan sudah lebih ditonton dari 10 juta orang di YouTube!
