It's Push and Shove, baby! Belum. Kita belum membicarakan album ke enam No Doubt yang berjudul sama. Push and Shove merupakan track ke empat di album tersebut dan dirilis sebagai single promosi untuk memanaskan perhatian para pendengar kepada albumnya. Meski begitu, single yang juga menghadirkan rapper Busy Signal serta bantuan produksi dari Major Lasser, yang merupakan proyek sampingan dari DJ Diplo, tetap merupakan single yang memiliki potensi untuk diminati.
Dengan menilik dua nama yang membantu pengerjaan single Push and Shove, jelas kita sudah menduga jika single ini akan berbau elektronika dan dance serta Hiphop. Tidak salah juga memang, meski tentu saja kita masih bisa mendengarkan beat ska ala No Doubt. Namun dengan kerjama dengan Busy Signal dan Major Lazer, Push and Shove terdengar begitu urban. Begitu kontemporer. Begitu bergemuruh.
Pada intinya, Push and Shove mengadopsi konsep dubstep yang tengah mewabah di kalangan musisi masa kini di dalamnya. Dance. Dance. Dance. Itu mungkin tujuan utama dari single ini. Go for whatever you want / Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t / (Baby, you), baby, you get that, take that / I’m in the mood so make it last. Demikian Gwen Stefani bernanyi. Dengan lirik yang dipenuhi dengan bahasa prokem, kesan street-smart yang santai pun mendominasi. Sementara itu, Busy Signal menjalankan tugasnya seperti umumnya artis rap yang menjadi featuring artist, memberi aksentuasi pada intensitas dinamika lagunya.
Meski kita belum bisa mendengarkan album Push and Shove secara penuh, namun setelah menyimak single pertama mereka untuk album tersebut, Settle Down, dan kemudian single ini, mau tidak mau kita mengambil kesimpulan jika synth-pop tampaknya akan lebih mendominasi album tersebut. Push and Shove sendiri adalah yang enerjetik dan sangat pas dibuat teman di lantai disko. Tidak heran karena Diplo turun tangan langsung bertindak sebagai produser, sehingga nuansa dance yang kental semakin menambah keseruan lagunya.
