Album Battle Born yang dirilis pertengahan tahun lalu sepertinya merupakan melting pot antara experience dan juga pengaruh berbagai musik yang menginspirasi band ini. Ya, album milik band asal Las Vegas ini, The Killers memiliki nuansa yang unik antara sense bermusik mereka ditambah pengaruh berbagai musisi lainnya. Salah satunya adalah single yang satu ini, Miss Atomic Bomb. Rasanya seperti mendengar lirik romantis-naratif ala band ini, namun diselimuti aransemen layaknya perpaduan inspirasi antara Kings of Leon dan Foo Fighters. Nampaknya sejak album kedua mereka, Sam’s Town, band ini semakin menunjukkan identitas ke-Amerika-an mereka.
Saya sangat mengagumi band ini sejak pertama kali mereka muncul, dan salah satu faktor yang membuat saya mengagumi mereka adalah kharisma Brandon Flowers. Sudah sangat jelas sekali kharisma itu terasa sangat melekat di single ini, terutama pada bagian lirik “Feels just like a dagger burried deep in your back..” mengingatkan saya pada single mereka terdahulu, When You Were Young. Selain Brandon Flowers. Peran Ronnie Vannuci juga patut diacungi jempol karena berhasil menyuguhi pattern drum yang sebenarnya biasa saja namun terdengar dense dan rapi. Pola genre rock pada umumnya memang terasa, tetapi juga terdengar seperti lagu-lagu New Wave pada awal tahun ‘90an. Apakah sebuah kebetulan apabila performa baik mereka di “Miss Atomic Bomb” karena ternyata mereka berdua adalah penulis lagu ini? Kita tak tahu pasti.
Memang kualitas The Killers sebagai salah satu band papan atas Amerika Serikat tak perlu dipertanyakan lagi. Mereka mengerti bagaimana memadukan materi lagu yang baik dengan proses produksi yang sesuai. Sayangnya kadang sebuah karya yang baik belum bisa mendapat apresiasi yang cukup di telinga pendengar musik. Sejauh ini, ‘Miss Atomic Bomb” mendapat tempat di nomor 46 di US Billboard Rock Songs Chart per pertengahan November 2012. Ada alasan mungkin sekarang bukan era dimana lagu-lagu berdurasi 5 menit lebih digandrungi oleh penikmat musik sehingga hal itu perlu mendapat concern yang lebih. Selain itu kecil kemungkinan lagu ini menjadi candu berkepanjangan bagi penikimat musik pada umumnya. Tapi menurut saya lagu ini bukan diciptakan untuk tujuan seperti itu. Dan secara keseluruhan, “Miss Atomic Bomb” adalah pembuktian kedewasaan bermusik bagi Brandon Flowers dan kawan-kawan.
