Ada idola baru nih, namanya James Arthur. Dia adalah pemenang The X Factor UK tahun 2012. Dimentori oleh Nicole Scherzinger di kategori Boys, ia memenangkan pilihan pemirsa melawan rekan sekategorinya, Jahmene Douglas. Tentunya seperti pemenang-pemenang lainnya, ia berkesempatan untuk langsung merilis single kemenangan. Yang dipilihkan untuk James adalah sebuah balada R&B yang aslinya dibawakan oleh Shontelle, 'Impossible'. Lagu ini digubah dengan gaya pop dengan sedikit pengaruh rock, dimana synth yang dipakai untuk versi originalnya diganti dengan instrumen gitar dan beat R&B yang smooth diubah dengan drum sehingga terdengar lebih organik.
Pergantian genre ini juga disokong dengan otentiknya vokal James. Ia punya warna vokal yang serak, setipe dengan Bryan Adams. Sedikit akrobat vokal saja sudah bisa membuat emosi ikut terpancing ketika mendengarkannya. Kualitas seperti itu yang tengah disukai. Vokal-vokal unik bermunculan dari waktu ke waktu di UK. Keunikan mereka yang membuat mereka disukai, karena tidak dapat menemukan warna serupa dari artis lain. Diana Vickers, Ellie Goulding, dan sekarang giliran cowok yang unjuk gigi, James Arthur.
Mau kenal lebih James? Lewat tayangan video musiknya, kita disuguhkan rangkuman perjalanan kompetisi James di The X Factor. Cerita pra-nya adalah James pernah membentuk band. Bukan satu, tapi dua; The James Arthur Band dan The James Arthur Project. Dia bahkan sempat mengeluarkan rekaman indie sebelum akhirnya memutuskan untuk audisi di The X Factor. "Kehidupan musik" James juga meliputi penulisan lagu untuk artis indie lain. Pengangkatan namanya dari indie ke major label, sekaligus pengenalannya ke dunia yang lebih luas dari sekedar UK telah diproklamirkan lewat 'Impossible' ini.
