Setelah sempat vakum dari industri musik pasca kecelakaannya di awal tahun 2012 lalu, Jason Derulo kini kembali dengan video klip terbarunya, The Other Side. Ia tidak banyak terdengar kabarnya setelah keluarnya Undefeated, single terakhirnya yang dirilis pada pertengahan tahun lalu dan muncul ditengah proses penyembuhan kecelakaannya.
Setelah melalui semua itu, kita pasti berpikir apakah hal tersebut mengubah cara bermusik Derulo. Tetapi jangan khawatir, ia tetap tampil dalam balutan pop dan R&B yang upbeat dengan nada yang catchy! Vokalnya juga dihiasi dengan banyak nada tinggi yang manis dan singable dalam reffnya. Dalam The Other Side, semua itu dibawakan dengan lirik yang begitu sweet dalam konteks hubungan romansa antara sepasang teman yang berubah menjadi kekasih. Dari lirik diatas, bisakah kamu menebak siapa yang menginspirasinya untuk membuat lagu ini bersama DJ Ammo dan Martin Johnson? Ya, dialah pemenang American Idol season 6, Jordin Sparks! Tunangan dari Derulo yang setia menemani dalam masa rehatnya itu membuat Sparks menjadi tokoh gadis yang dihadirkan dalam lagu ini. Cukup romantis, ya?
Terlepas dari itu semua, lagu ini memang cocok untuk musim panas yang akan datang ini. Dengan beatnya yang menghentak dan sangat danceable serta pas untuk menjadi radio play, jelas, saya pikir The Other Side bisa menjadi party anthem yang menarik untuk dikumandangkan. Jika single comebacknya saja sudah memikat seperti ini, rasa-rasanya album ketiganya yang akan datang menjadi layak untuk dinantikan. Kita tunggu saja!
