Orang-orang sudah luar biasa ngos-ngosan mendapati kembalinya Justin Timberlake ke skena musik tahun ini. Diperparah lagi dengan keterlibatan sang popstar dalam single terbaru Jay-Z 'Holy Grail', tampaknya masyarakat memang enggak dikasih kesempatan untuk tarik nafas dalam menikmati musik dari satu nama itu. Ini adalah keluaran dari album studio kedua belas Jay, "Magna Carta... Holy Grail" yang sudah tercatat sebagai salah satu album terlaris di Amerika Serikat tahun ini, dan pastinya angka penjualannya diseluruh dunia juga cemerlang.
Untuk sebuah single yang agung ini, Jay dan JT menggandeng rekan produser mereka yang memang jagonya hits. The Dream, J-Roc, dan juga Timbaland menggawangi produksi, mengawinkan ciri dan corak masing-masing demi menggali harmonisasi dan menghembuskannya lewat nada dan irama. Sedikit bantuan dari track legendari 'Smells Like Teen Spirit", penambahan epik terjadi. Dan saat kita tergelitik untuk menyebut "too much epicness in one tune", ketahuilah bahwa untuk membuat satu lagu ini dibutuhkan waktu setidaknya dua tahun pengerjaan. Well, tidak secara penuh setiap harinya digunakan hanya untuk menciptakan sebuah 'Holy Grail', namun proses pengerjaan dimulai di tahun 2011 saat Jay memiliki proyek dengan Kanye West. Namun lagu ini akhirnya mendapat sentuhan akhir dari Timbo dan J-Roc untuk diikutsertakan dalam proyek Jay sendiri di tahun 2013.
Saya harus akui saat mendengar intro JT yang hanya berlatar piano lagu ini belum menemukan jalannya. Butuh waktu setidaknya satu menit hingga terjadi penyesuaian, dan kemudian ketika Jay mulai menyerang lagu sebelum durasi menginjak satu setengah menit, beat yang hadir mengundang atensi. Dan ya, disitu baru lagu ini terasa nikmat. Dan bukan bermaksud lancang ataupun tidak memperhitungkan kolaborasi rapper dan vokalis lainnya, 'Holy Grail' akan menyabet Grammy untuk Best Rap/Sung Collaboration tahun depan dengan sangat mudah. Alasannya, both performers are Grammy sweethearts and the tune they're bringing is a Grammy material.
