Single of the Day: Pixie Lott - Nasty

It's almost a runaway hit for Christina Aguilera, if only Pixie Lott can get 'Nasty' to the top of the chart at the beginning of last month. Tapi ternyata, lagu karya Claude Kelly dan CeeLo Green ini cuma mampu debut di posisi 9 UK Singles Chart, mematahkan impian Pixie sebagai penanggung jawab terbaik untuk lagu yang nyaris tak dirilis ini.

Itu dari segi komersil, bagaimana dengan artistik? Pesona yang Pixie ingin coba tampilkan dalam album studio ketiganya nanti adalah sesuatu yang soulful, funky, dan beraroma Motown. Dan dari 'Nasty', kilasan tersebut terpancar rapi. Lagu ini relevan untuk tujuan yang ditetapkan. Briliannya adalah, gaya funky sudah terlebih dahulu di-insert ke dalam musik Pixie sejak zaman album perdananya dulu, sehingga ia tidak hilang dalam identitas untuk menggeser musiknya ke arah yang baru. Ia sukses mencetak gol disini.

Sayangnya, 'Nasty' tak sedikitpun terdengar ramah. Ia tergolong nyaring, meski diputar dalam volume minim sekalipun. Potensi riuh yang dimiliki single ini menjadikannya mencolok. Tak cuma itu, tarikan vokal Pixie dalam membuat runs menjelang penghujung lagu merupakan colokan lain yang single ini punya. Those, alongside with the music, Pixie tak bisa mengelak menghidupkan kembali moment Christina Aguilera di era "Back to Basics". 'Nasty' adalah cerminan 'Ain't No Other Man' ataupun 'Candyman'. It's a moment when her music was respected, and hopefully Pixie can make her own as well.
