Single 'Lay Me Down' milik Pixie Lott adalah bukti bahwa kita masih bisa mendapatkan lagu enak di luar chart. Pasalnya, sejak single ini dirilis secara resmi per 27 Juli 2014, ia gagal masuk dalam jajaran 100 single di UK Singles Chart. Alhasil, Pixie terpaksa gigit jari karena tak sanggup menambah koleksi lagu penghuni chart yang ia punya dengan single ini. Result: less enthusiasm, padahal Pixie telah menjanjikan soul, R&B, dan Motown influenced dalam album studio ketiganya dengan persiapan matang tiga tahun jarak dari album sebelumnya. Tapi itu semua tidak memvonis lagu ini pada kesimpulan drop dead dreadful.
'Lay Me Down' justru lebih ear catchy dibanding 'Nasty'. Beat yang ia tawarkan lebih segar dengan melodi yang semakin mendekati tema retro. Hook tersaji tergolong killer, "lay me down, lay me down, lay me down closer to you" ikut membantu kelancaran injeksi lagu ini ke dalam memori pendengar. Kesan ambisi pun terlukis dalam lirik. Diceritakan bahwa Pixie yang di mabuk kepayang butuh arahan yang cepat dan tepat untuk memangkan cinta sang pujaan hati.
