Single of the Day: Calvin Harris feat. HAIM - Pray to God

Dan Calvin Harris pun memilih kolaborasinya dengan HAIM sebagai single terbaru untuk album "Motion". Single ke-enam untuk lebih tepatnya. 'Pray to God', demikian judulnya memang merupakan salah satu track terkuat di album tersebut. Mengadopsi pop-rock yang dibalut progressive house, 'Pray to God' menjelma menjadi sebuah power EDM yang memiliki kandungan dance dan pop secara pas

Tapi, ada yang menarik untuk dicermati dari 'Pray to God'. Meski dance/EDM adalah serat utama lagunya, akan tetapi secara struktur lagu sebenarnya sangat mengikuti pakem pop-rock bercampur blues yang kental. Buang beat electro/mesinnya dan transfer ke dalam instrumen yang lebih organis, maka jadilah.

Tampaknya kakak beradik HAIM kepikiran Stevie Nicks dan Fleetwood Mac-nya saat mengerjakan lagunya, sehingga tidak heran jika 'Pray to God' agak mengingat lagu mereka, serta atmosfir vintage yang tebal. Dan inilah yang menjadi kelebihan 'Pray to God' dibandingkan lagu EDM biasanya.

Lagu masih mengincar sensasi dansa, namun tak terluput untuk memberi kesan organis yang kuat, sehingga tidak terdengar terlalu steril dan mesin. Dipastikan jika HAIM pun menipkan ruh yang kuat pada vokal, sehingga lagu hadir dengan lebih berjiwa lagi.

Untuk video musiknya, yang dikerjakan oleh sutradara handal, Emil Nava, trio HAIM pun menjelma menjadi 3 perwujudan Stevie Nicks. Tepatnya Stevie Nick dalam mode penyihir (hey, Nicks bahkan tampil sebagai dirinya sendiri, seorang penyanyi slash penyihir, di American Horror Story: Coven). Dengan latar alam yang kerap berganti, HAIM seolah ingin memeluk ibu bumi sebagai kekuatan mereka. Terkesan mistis dan magis. PS: Calvin Harris absen di videonya.
