Mary J Blige tampil dengan kesederhaan saat membawakan lagu I Am dalam penampilan American Music Awards-nya tahun ini. Lagu ini dialbim dari album Stronger With Each Tear yang segera meluncur 21 Desember nanti. I Am adalah sebuah lagu soul R&B yang sangat mengandalkan vokal MJB dibalut dengan alunan musik khas Stargate (Tor Erik Hermansen dan Mikkel Eriksen) yang enggak dipungkiri begitu cocok menjadi radio airplay. Tidak ada yang kurang dari lagu ini, vokal MJB sempurna.
Lovely synth, tepat pada porsinya. Fabulous strings intro dan iringan drum sepanjang lagu juga menambah mudahnya proses penyerapan lagu ke telinga. Liriknya juga kuat, mempromosikan diri sendiri bahwa tak ada yang lebih baik dari diriku. Maka kemudian credit juga diberikan kepada MJB, Johnta Austin, dan Stargate karena telah berhasil mempersembahkan sebuah lagu R&B which I enjoy hearing as much as 'Be Without You'.
