Mike Posner sudah menunjukkan keinginannya sebagai recording artist sedari SMA dimana dirinya menghasilkan sebuah mixtape yang dikasih judul "Reflections of a Lost Teen". Kemudian di masa-masa kuliah, dia gabung sama Don Cannon dan DJ Benzi untuk membuat mixtape lagi yang berjudul "A Matter Of Time". Di dalam mixtape inilah lagu 'Cooler Than Me' pertama kali diperdengarkan. Dan memang berkat mixtape ini juga Mike Posner berhasil dikontrak sama label rekaman J Records. Dan sebagai bukti awal kehadiran Mike dalam di dunia musik yang lebih luas, lagu ini kemudian dirilis sebagai single pertama Mike dengan versi yang baru, 'Cooler Than Me (Single Mix)'.
Buat kamu yang berpegangan bahwa sebuah lagu dancepop itu tidak harus berisik, 'Cooler Than Me (Single Mix)' ini pasti kamu suka. Musiknya jinak, tidak hingar bingar layaknya dancepop lainnya.
