Priscilla Hamilton dan Wayne Wilkins adalah dua orang yang berada di balik layar untuk single terbaru Cheryl Cole yang berjudul 'The Flood' ini. Dirilis sebagai single kedua untuk album kedua Cheryl "Messy Little Raindrops" yang masih mengetengahkan pop sebagai sajian utamanya. Ini adalah musik yang berada di halaman lain dari single sebelumnya 'Promise This'. Lagu berdurasi nyaris 4 menit ini punya sound ballad yang bisa menghanyutkan emosi di dalamnya. 100% menyentuh.
Ketertarikan musik yang terjadi pada pengalaman mendengarkan lagu ini adalah sound yang tercipta memiliki kemiripan dengan apa yang selalu dihasilkan oleh Ryan Tedder. Seperti drum beat yang repetitif dan vokal latar yang seperti nge-choir. Tapi lagu ini juga punya ciri sendiri yang enggak kalah sedap, intro gitar akustiknya. Setiap hendak memulai chorus, akan muncul suara-suara senar yang digesek yang membuat lagu ini tambah dramatis.
Apa yang hendak disampaikan oleh Cheryl lewat single ini adalah sesuatu yang juga drama. Bagaimana gambaran cinta yang enggak biasa dalam liriknya. Aku sendiri agak takut menerjemahkan apa sebenarnya yang terjadi disini. Penulisan yang melankolis tentang cinta yang menghanyutkan, melibatkan karam dan tenggelam, dalam sebuah tajuk bencana alam.
Kalau dilihat dari perjalanan chart Cheryl, lagu ini tercatat sebagai penerima peringkat terendah dalam chart UK darinya, dengan hanya peak di posisi 18. Meskipun demikian, permainan emosi yang diciptakannya dalam nyanyiannya untuk lagu ini adalah kunci utama dalam kesuksesan kenikmatan mendengarkannya. As for Cheryl, dirinya diunggulkan dalam BRIT Awards tahun ini untuk Best British Female. Semoga para juri memilihnya, karena dia pantas menyandang gelar tersebut!
