Dirilis pada 14 September 2010, single berjudul Black and Yellow ini telah sempat menduduki peringkat pertama dalam tangga lagu Billboard Hot 100. Kenal dengan lagu yang satu ini dan penyanyinya? Yup, siapa lagi kalau bukan Wiz Khalifa yang mampu melakukannya! Penyanyi Amerika kelahiran 1987 ini sendiri telah dikontrak oleh Atlantic Records untuk menelurkan album terbarunya nanti yang berjudul Rolling Papers.
Sebagai debut single untuk album ketiganya yang akan datang, lagu yang satu ini ditulis oleh Wiz sendiri dengan bantuan Stargate dan diproduseri oleh Stargate. Mengangkat warna atribut tim football Pittsburgh Steelers yang didominasi warna hitam dan kuning asal Pittsburgh, kota tempat tinggalnya sekarang sebagai judul dari lagu ini sebagai judul lagunya – adalah salah satu kunci Wiz untuk mencuri hati masyarakat setempat dan dunia untuk mendengarkan lagunya yang satu ini – yang dengan instannya mendapat sambutan hangat dari para fans yang menyebutnya sebagai salah satu lagu anthem untuk tim football tersebut. Disamping itu, lagu ini telah digubah ulang oleh beberapa musisi sebagai tribute untuk tim olahraga Amerika lainnya termasuk Snoop Dogg, Juicy J dari Three 6 Mafia dan T-Pain yang berkolaborasi bersama dalam membuat versi remixnya yang berjudul Black and Yellow (G Remix). Yah, memang semua ini dikarenakan liriknya yang menyiratkan kebanggaan yang sangat mendalam yang dialami oleh sang tokoh utama, dimana walaupun terkesan sombong, tidak dapat dipungkiri lagu ini merupakan penyemangat yang cukup ampuh bagi para pendengarnya.
Musiknya sendiri tergolong seperti musik hip hop kebanyakan yang akan membuat kita bergoyang menikmati beatnya. Lagunya cukup santai untuk telinga ditambah dengan dentuman dan dentingan xylophone serta efek synth yang menghiasi di musiknya yang akan membuat kita untuk terus mendengarkan lagu ini hingga akhir. Apalagi, liriknya yang cukup sederhana dan mudah dihafal membuat lagu ini semakin easy listening. Bagi saya, kesan pertama yang didapat saat mendengar lagu ini adalah lagu ini terdengar seperti sangat pas untuk menjadi salah satu bagian dari soundtrack film dance macam Step Up. Single yang telah bocor di awal September silam ini rupanya berhasil membawa Wiz menuju kesuksesan tersendiri dimana ia menjadi cover majalah musik terkenal Rolling Stone yang menyebutnya sebagai “Hip-hop's Rookie of The Year.” Penasaran dengan sepak terjang lainnya dari artis dengan lagu yang telah meraih banyak publikasi di akhir tahun lalu ini serta mendapat predikat sebagai lagu hip hop dengan penjualan tertinggi dan terpopuler selama tahun 2010? Kita tunggu saja albumnya yang akan keluar 29 Maret 2011 nanti!
