I always knew 'That Should Be Me' is a stand out track from Justin Bieber's album "My World 2.0" atau yang di Indonesia rilisnya dengan judul "My Worlds". Track penutup album tersebut kini ditampilkan dengan bantuan Rascal Flatts sebagai bentuk soundtrack untuk film dokumenter Justin Bieber - Never Say Never 3D yang dikumpulkan dalam album "Never Say Never - The Remixes". Maka jadilah 'That Should Be Me (Remix)' dari Justin Bieber featuring Rascal Flatts ini. Single balada ini adalah hasil produksi dari tim produser The Messengers, yang sebelumnya sudah mengantarkan hit 'Never Say Never' untuk penampil muda asal Kanada tersebut. Dan selain untuk Bieber, karya lain mereka yang naik daun adalah single 'Crawl' dari Chris Brown juga 'Single' dari Ne-Yo dan New Kids On The Block.
Siapa yang bisa nyangka ciri pop R&B dari Justin bisa kawin dengan ciri country rock milik band Rascal Flatts. Justin sendiri selain versi originalnya udah pernah membawakan versi akustik untuk lagu ini. Dan memang pada dasarnya lagunya udah enak, mix ulang yang dilakukan juga membuat lagunya jadi tambah berasa. Justin memang enggak merekam ulang lagu ini di studio ketika hendak dibuatkan versi ini, hanya Rascal Flatt yang menambahkan instrumen mereka plus vokal Gary LeVox yang duet bareng Justin. It works, it really works! Sebagaimana kentalnya ciri masing-masing yang meletak dalam tata musik dan vokal, secara ajaib berbaur sempurna menjadikan satu lagu utuh yang punya sound pop, R&B, country, dan rock dalam sajian balada jempolan.
Kandungan makna dalam 'That Should Be Me' adalah sebuah harapan hampa yang mengiba kepada pasangan untuk menerima kembali dirinya sebagai kekasih, sebuah hal yang lebih cenderung mendekat ke penyesalan ketimbang kejadian. Enggak cuma pernyataan "that should be me holding your hand, making you laugh, feeling your kiss, buying you gifts", tapi juga penyesalan di akhir lagu yang sungguh mengiba "I never should’ve let you go, I never should’ve let you go". This is so sad, really. Mungkin sama sedihnya dengan para penggemar yang enggak berkesempatan menyaksikan penampilan live Justin Bieber di Jakarta hari ini. Rasanya pengen teriak kencang, "that should be me in your concert!"
Lagu ini mendapat rating tinggi dari ku. Salah satu lagu terbaik Justin which showcase his ability to show emotion in his singing. Semakin panjang perjalanan karirnya di dunia musik, mungkin lagu-lagu sejenis yang akan ngepas dengan vokal dan kematangannya kelak.
