Setelah sekitar setahun tak mendengar karya dari Beyonce, akhirnya ia merilis single terbarunya ‘Run The World (Girls)’ yang merupakan single perkenalan dari album keempatnya berjudul 4 (baca: four). Dibuka dengan permainan perkusi serta tempo yang menghentak ala marching militer tembang ini ditengarai sebagai penggebrak kelab.
Memang melodinya sendiri sangat sederhana karena tembang ini lebih mengandalkan ketukan yang kencang dan repetitif. Nuansa perkusi ala Afrika begitu terasa yang tentu saja dipadukan dengan unsur funk. Sentuhan kontemporer terdengar dengan imbuhan synthesizer di dalamnya. Tembang yang ditulis keroyokan antara Terius Nash, Beyoncé Knowles, Nick van de Wall, Wesley Pentz, David Taylor, dan Adidja Palmer ini diproduseri oleh Switch dibantu oleh Beyonce sendiri dan Shea Taylor. Dalam tembang ini B memasukkan sample dari lagu "Pon de Floor" oleh Major Lazer, sebuah proyek musik kolaborasi antara DJ Switch dan Diplo.
Sementara intepretasi vokal Beyonce yang bertenaga mampu menghidupkan dan mengikuti gerak tempo yang kencang. Melalui sorak suaranya Beyonce mengungkapkan tentang pemberdayaan perempuan. Ia mengajak para perempuan yang mengalami kegagalan untuk bangkit. Melalui lagu ini Beyonce juga mengingatkan pentingnya pendidikan bagi perempuan untuk menjadi kuat dan mandiri hingga mampu menguasai dunia. Untuk membangkitkan inspirasi bagi para perempuan di seluruh dunia ia menunjukkan /smart enough to make these millions / seperti dirinya. Tembang ini juga menjadi peringatan bagi para pria untuk tidak mempermainkan perempuan-perempuan yang kuat seperti dirinya.
