Menyebutkan Sophie Ellis-Bextor sebagai one hit wonder rasanya sungguh tidak adil, karena pasca kesuksesan album Read My Lips di tahun 2001, ia toh tetap menghasilkan beberapa hits lagi, meski memang tidak memiliki gaung yang cukup mencolok. Sepuluh tahun kemudian, Sophie siap meluncurkan album keempatnya yang diberi judul Make A Scene. Menyusul Bittersweet sebagai teaser, maka Starlight dirilis sebagai single kedua untuk memanaskan promosi album tersebut.
Sophie mempunyai warna vokal yang sangat khas, sehingga selintas dengar saja, orang sudah dapat mengasosiasikan Starlight sebagai milik Sophie. Sebuah nomor dansa bertempo medium yang masih dipengaruhi oleh beat-beat elektonika-synth ala 80-an yang menyenangkan untuk didengar. Hanya saja, ditengah gempuran elektropop mutakhir yang mengejar komposisi ringan dan pop-ish, Starlight terdengar mapan, berkelas dan mungkin akan sedikit terlalu "bersih" bagi yang tebiasa dengan musik trend kekinian.
Starlight memang terdengar seperti sebuah retro-loungy ketimbang sebuah club-anthem, tapi itu tidak menafikan fakta ini adalah sebuah lagu pop yang bagus. Vokal Sophie yang khas melebur dengan sempurna dalam komposisi produser Richard X paham kemana vokal Sophie seharusnya diarahkan. Starlight kemudian terdengar seksi dan menggoda, seolah mengajak kita masuk kedalam dunianya yang sensual dan manis.
