Keberadaan presentasi terbaik terhadap lagu pop rock karya Max Martin dan Shellback untuk penyanyi wanita memang tidak terletak pada satu nama saja. Tapi kenyataan kalau Avril Lavigne mampu membawakan lagu-lagu tersebut dengan sebentuk emosi yang terpancar dalam nyanyiannya adalah sesuatu yang belum tentu bisa disampaikan oleh penyanyi lain untuk karya Max dan Shellback. Ini bisa kita nikmati secara utuh dalam lagu 'Wish You Were Here' yang masih diambil dari album "Goodbye Lullaby". Lagu ini stand out dibanding dua single sebelumnya, karena jalur pop rock yang soft dengan intro yang nge-akustik menjadi sajiannya, beda dari 'Smile' dan 'What The Hell' yang menghentak girang.
Damn! Berasa terkoneksi dengan lirik yang mengiba dalam nyanyian yang benar-benar make hati. Memberikan keterlibatan empati bagi pendengar untuk memosisikan diri pada apa yang dihadapi di lagunya. Best part of the song is the bridge. Selain musik yang dikasih dengar ke kita sedap banget yang berasal dari piano, ada juga vokal latar Avril yang mendendang merdu, sayup-sayup tapi berasa.
Jempol buat trio Avril, Max, dan Shellback yang bisa membuat sebuah lagu cinta enggak terdengar seperti biasa. Enggak mesti penuh angan-angan berdua bahagia selamanya dalam berbagai ungkapan yang benar-benar fancy. Tapi cukup dengan sebuah harapan "I wish you were here", rasanya udah tersampaikan semua pesan cinta yang dipunya.
