JoJo memulai perjalanan musiknya dari usia muda. Sehingga saat album ketiganya tertahan, kekhawatiran kita tidak terletak pada usia si penyanyi yang akan membuat lapuk performa vokalnya, tapi justru dibuat jengkel dengan ketidakjelasan nasib lagu demi lagu yang beredar dengan label "single terbaru JoJo". Dimulai dari 3 tahun lalu saat 'Forever In My Life' mendapat perhatian dari radio-radio di Indonesia, disusul 'In The Dark' yang diambil dari mixtape "Can't Take That Away", hingga yang terakhir, 'The Other Chick' yang kembali meluncurkan vokal JoJo menggema di radio-radio tanah air. Dan kini, secara resmi, single 'Disaster' dirilis dari album "Jumping Trains" pada akhir Agustus lalu.
Bersama Mario Marchetti (yang sekaligus mengambil peran sebagai produser di lagu) dan Gino Barletta, JoJo mengkreasikan lagu ini dalam adonan musik pop rock yang meminuskan aroma R&B dan urban yang sering ditampilkan di single-single sebelumnya. Hal tersebut pantas saja terjadi, terkait dengan kolaborasi pertamanya dengan dua orang tersebut. This sounds amazing. Dalam olahan musik yang fresh bagi seorang JoJo, kita masih mendapat kesempatan dengar kekuatan vokalnya yang luar biasa yang membuat kita terpesona tatkala mendengar 'Leave' atau 'Too Little Too Late' dahulu.
Banyak ulasan positif mengenai 'Disaster', pendewasaan musiknya, vokalnya, dan juga kepribadiannya. Memberikan respon terbaik terhadap usaha kerasnya untuk tetap bisa berkarya meskipun dalam hempasan badai konflik yang menderanya dengan label rekaman. Kalau ditilik dari lirik yang terkandung, lagu ini juga berada dalam barisan 'Leave' dan 'Too Little Too Late' yang menguasai lapangan "putusnya sebuah hubungan". Semacam sebuah spesialisasi tersendiri bagi Jojo dalam menghadirkan single pertama bagi setiap albumnya, bukan?!
Mudah-mudahan tradisi tersebut juga dapat menulari 'Disaster' dalam mencapai kesuksesan serupa yang pernah JoJo capai di masa-masa yang lalu. Tapi jika dilihat sekarang, tidaklah demikian kondisinya. Sejak dirilis pada 29 Agustus 2011, 'Disaster' kurang berkembang sebagai sebuah lagu yang laris. Meskipun laris adalah salah satu faktor dari banyaknya aspek penentu kesuksesan seorang artis, tapi ini menunjukkan prestasi yang menurun dalam grafik pencapaian penyanyi muda ini.
