Menarik sekali bagaimana K'Naan ingin mempertahankan keberadaannya di blantika musik global pasca 'Wavin' Flag'. Menghasilkan lagu-lagu bersama artis lain sepertinya ide yang cukup ampuh baginya. Terhitung beberapa karya musik yang dihasilkan kerap menyandingkan nama artis asal Somalia ini dengan artis yang sudah lebih dahulu tenar. Adam Levine ('Bang Bang') dan Keane ('Stop For A Minute'). Dan kini bersama Nelly Furtado dirinya berdendang 'Is Anybody Out There' yang diambil dari albumnya yang berjudul "More Beautiful Than Silence". Nama K'Naan dan Nelly Furtado ternyata bukan pertama kalinya bersama dalam sebuah karya musik, karena kedua telah lebih dahulu gabung untuk proyek amal buat Haiti di tahun 2010 dan juga di lagu 'Going Away' sebagai duet pertama mereka. Dan yang kali ini adalah single yang benar adanya berformulasi hit!
Formula tersebut hadir dalam pembagian andil verse rap oleh yang cowok dan bagian hook diserahkan kepada yang cewek. Alunan musik hip-hop yang berpadu dengan alternatif menjadi sajian musiknya. Voila. You can dance to it and sure you can sing along too. Tapi sebenarnya kalau kita tilik dari lirik yang ada, lagu ini justru jatuh pada sebuah kondisi yang mengetuk hati untuk berempati Itu tercetus gamblang lewat verse-nya, dimana celoteh K'Naan mengenai seorang cewek dan seorang cowok yang butuh cinta dalam hidupnya. Bukan hanya sebagai penyempurna, tapi juga memperbaiki apa yang salah.
Somehow I found this song resembles to B.o.B's 'Airplanes'. Meskipun tidak se-gloomy lagu tersebut iramanya, tapi gaya nge-rap K'Naan yang menimbulkan kesan itu ada. Tapi kemiripan tak lantas menyeret pada konsep buruk. Karena sebenarnya bagaimana penerimaan pendengar terhadap masing-masing single yang terpenting. Dan berdasarkan easy listening-nya, 'Is Anybody Out There' punya potensi like-able yang luar biasa besar. Dengan demikian, lagu ini juga punya kesempatan untuk menjadi hit!
