It’s Britney, bitch! She’s back. Meski begitu, Britney Spears tidak hadir untuk album terbarunya, melainkan untuk membantu will.i.am di single terpanasnya dari album #willpower, Scream & Shout. Pastinya ini bukan kerjasama pertama sekali antara Brit dan Will karena salah satu track di album Femme Fatale milik Brit, Big Fat Bass, merupakan olahan tangan dingin Will.
Lagu dibuka dengan Brit yang nge-rap dalam intonasi yang terkesan dingin serta aksen Inggris yang kental. Sound so different. Vokalnya memang cenderung seperti background ketimbang berperan mandiri sebagai penyanyi. Selanjutnya will.i.am hadir dalam porsi rap yang lebih besar, sementara Brit bernyanyi untuk bagian chorusnya. Dan ruh Britney pun akhirnya masuk ke dalam lagunya saat ia melafalkan, "it's Britney, bitch!" dari single Gimme More.
Meski vokal will.i.am heavily autotuned, uniknya tidak demikian yang terjadi pada vokal Brit yang hadir dengan lebih alami. Namun begitu, mereka ternyata cukup kompak dan padu dalam menghadirkan Scream & Shout. Satu yang patut menjadi catatan, will.i.am memang selalu tahu bagaimana membuat lagu pop-dance yang tidak hanya easy listening tapi juga catchy, terlepas dari beberapa blunder seperti T.H.E. (misalnya).
Kekuatan Scream & Shout memang terletak di chorusnya."I wanna scream, and shout, and let it all out!" plus chant "oh wee oh wee oh wee oh" yang membius. Semua berangkat dari kesederhanaan. Namun begitu menarik perhatian. Beat-beat EDM yang rapat dan berat memang menjadi senjata andalan, akan tetapi tidak bisa dinafikan, kekuatan hook menjadi andalan utama. Hasilnya, Scream & Shout adalah sebuah lagu dance/house yang “kelam”, namun juga seru.
