Kesuksesannya di negara asal, Inggris tampaknya masih kurang diakui, sehingga ketika 'Lights' laku keras di Amerika Serikat, namanya langsung mencuat ke jajaran atas artis penyanyi dunia. Setelah "Halcyon" rilis, orang-orang tak hanya bisa menikmati musiknya yang unik, tapi juga memuji kekayaan yang terkandung di dalamnya. Termasuk untuk yang satu ini, 'Explosions'.
Suguhan awal 'Explosions' adalah suasana dreamy, cenderung mencekam dengan iring-iringan paduan suara sopran. Ketika vokal Ellie mulai terdengar memimpin, nyawa lagu ini serasa terisi, hingga akhirnya instrumen lain mulai memunculkan suaranya. Bukan balada biasa, lagu berdurasi 4 menit 3 detik ini mengandung unsur elektronika sebagai citra musik Ellie yang dikawinkan dengan sedikit porsi rock sehingga menjadikannya lebih menjorok ke dalam ranah alternatif ketimbang pop.
Ellie mengajari kita untuk menunggu pelangi setelah hujan, melihat cahaya di ujung terowongan. Akhir yang bahagia tak selamanya bersama, karena perpisahan juga bisa menjadi sebuah solusi terbaik untuk sebuah hubungan yang tak sehat. Dalam mencari hikmah tersebut bukanlah proses yang mudah, tapi harapan yang memperkuat diri hingga bisa menemukannya.
