Single of the Day: Linkin Park feat. Steve Aoki - A Light That Never Comes

Apa jadinya jika band nu metal seperti Linkin Park bekerjasama dengan seorang musisi EDM seperti Steve Aoki. Maka jadilah single seperti A Light That Never Comes ini, dimana rock dan EDM berpadu dan membentuk sebuah elektro-pop.

Mengandalkan beat elektronika tentunya bukan hal asing bagi Linkin Park, karena mereka sendiri pun memiliki Joe Hahn sebagai penguasa turntable dan memperkaya beat elektronik Linkin Park. Akan tetapi kehadiran Joe Hahn adalah untuk mempertebal atmosfir industrial ketimbang mengejar sensadi EDM.

Kehadiran Steve Aoki bukan lantas membuat A Light That Never Comes menjadi sebuah anthem progressive house misalnya. Sama sekali bukan. Secara umum lagu ini masih memiliki struktur bermusik milik Linkin Park, dimana semangat rock metal berperan sangat besar dalam membangun emosi.

Hanya saja, memang sulit untuk menghindari kesan jika kehadiran Steve Aoki membuat A Light That Never Comes terdengar jauh lebih light ketimbang lagu-lagu Linkin Park biasanya. Imbuhan dubstep bukan mengarahkan ke unsur industrial tadi, akan tetapi memang lebih mengarahkan lagunya ke arah EDM. Dan jika tujuan Linkin Park mengajak Steve Aoki agar musik mereka tidak terdengar seperti biasanya, boleh dibilang kolaborasi ini cukup sukses menjalankan misinya.

Lagu ini pertama kali ditampilkan mereka pada tanggal 10 Agustus yang lalu di acara Summer Sonic Festival, Tokyo, Jepang. Single ini bertugas sebagai single promosi untuk game puzzle online yang bernama LP Recharge. A Light That Never Comes juga akan terdapat di album remix Living Things yang berjudul Recharged, sebuah album remiks kedua Linkin Park setelah Reanimation di tahun 2002 yang lalu.
