Setelah Take Back the Night yang urban, Justin Timberlake menghadirkan single keduanya untuk album The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2 dalam balutan pop-RnB yang Timbaland-ish, dan pastinya sangat kental dengan Justin Timberlake yang kita kenal. TKO demikian judulnya. Single ditulis Timberlake bersama Timbaland dan J-Roc.
Mungkin ada alasan mengapa Timberlake merilis TKO sebagai single kedua, karena jujur saja, Take Back the Night merupakan lagu yang paling lemah dari barisan single yang dirilis untuk proyek The 20/20 Experience-nya. Bukan berarti jelek, akan tetapi kurang kuat.
Nah, dalam TKO, Timberlake tidak hanya kembali ke "khitah-nya", yaitu pop-RnB dalam balutan elektro-pop, meski secara tempo ia hadir dalam langkah yang sedang. TKO agak mengingatkan akan Cry Me a River dari album debutnya, Justified.
Hanya saja, dibandingkan Cry Me a River, TKO jelas lebih dipengaruhi oleh elemen urban ketimbang poop-catchy. Bukan berarti TKO tidak catchy, hanya saja jelas atmosfir yang diusung oleh TKO terdengar lebih mapan dan matang, terutama penggunaan atmosfir yang cenderung kelam.
Timbaland pun terdengar lebih menonjol kali ini. Sekali dengar saja, orang dengan gampang mengasosiasikan TKO dengan Timbaland karena ia memiliki semua ciri khas lagu produksi Timbaland. Meski, tentu saja, TKO adalah milik Justin Timberlake seutuhnya.
Dengan durasi sepanjang 7:04 menit, TKO adalah sebuah epik balada. Dan karena disusun dengan bouncy beat yang harmonis, kita bisa dengan mudah menikmati lagunya dan tujuh menit pun selesai tanpa terasa.
TKO merupakan salah satu bukti jika combo Timberlake dan Timbaland memang sebuah formula pop ampuh yang sulit untuk ditolak.
