Mari mulai dengan menyelamati G.R.L. atas perilisan 'Ugly Heart' ini sebagai kunci yang akan membukakan pintu sukses bagi mereka. Setidaknya kritik yang berpendapat demikian, menyebut lagu karya Dr. Luke, Cirkut, dan Ester Dean ini terdengar fresh and fun. Selain itu, klaim dari kelima cewek G.R.L. terhadap single terbaru mereka sebagai sebuah lagu pemberdayaan yang mengilhami setiap insan yang mendengarkan untuk menyeleraskan kepribadian baik dengan wajah rupawan yang dimiliki.
Nah, memang itu headline-nya. 'Ugly Heart' merupakan luapan emosi terhadap perilaku buruk yang didapati dari pasangan yang sama sekali tidak tercermin dalam tampilan fisiknya. Orang menggunakan frase "don't judge the book by its cover" rata-rata terhadap penampilan luar yang buruk, namun aplikasi disini adalah yang sebaliknya. Yang baik dari luar, belum tentu juga baik dari dalam. Setelah melakukan pengakuan terhadap keindahan "Okay you're pretty//Your face is a work of art", selanjutnya mengelupas apa yang diperoleh "But it's such a pity a boy so pretty//With an ugly heart"
Sementara itu, dari segi musik, 'Ugly Heart' punya pengaruh besar folk dari instrumen banjo. Seimbang dengan besaran electropop yang disalin untuk membangun satu kesatuan dancepop yang utuh. No big deal, karena ini terasa deja vu dengan single G.R.L. sebelumnya, 'Wild Wild Love' yang ditampilkan bersama Pitbull. Tak ada yang revolusioner disana. Yang mencolok justru saat kelima cewek ini tampil dengan kostum panggung dan diboyong ke kantor polisi. Laksana PSK kena razia, mereka gagal menyajikan presentasi bad girl dalam video musik untuk 'Ugly Heart'.
