Percayakah kalian kalau Selena Gomez akan merilis album kompilasi tahun ini? Di bawah namanya sendiri, ia memang baru punya satu album studio. Tapi dengan The Scene, ia sudah menelurkan tiga album studio yang semuanya berhasil duduk di Top 10 chart Billboard. Album tersebut diberi judul "For You" yang akan dirilis menjelang akhir November ini. Single andalannya sendiri adalah 'The Heart Wants What It Wants' yang Selena tulis bersama Rock Mafia dan David Jost.
Latar belakang tim produksi dan penulis lagu yang mendukung Selena di kesempatan ini sebenarnya mengarahkan pada pesona musik dancepop. Berhubung lagu sebenarnya bertemakan lirih, menceritakan kandasnya hubungan cinta Selena dengan Justin Bieber, maka mereka harus bersedia untuk mendemonstrasikan untaian nada yang mendukung feel tersebut. Alhasil sebuah balada pop pun tercipta, keras terdeskripsi dalam elemen elektronika, dan memiliki naungan perasaan mendung, kalut, dan air mata.
Dari 'Heart', kita tahu bahwa selama ini Selena hidup dalam dongeng modern yang ia ciptakan bersama Justin. Kehidupan romansa selalu menjadi pemberitaan utama dari mereka, menomorduakan karya mereka yang seharusnya malah menjadi bahan konsumsi utama. Dan dalam dongeng ini, tidak ada happy ending. Jadi biarlah sepi menyapa, relakan hampa menerpa, karena untuk berpisah adalah keputusan terbaik yang Selena punya.
Dengan keluarnya 'Heart', akhirnya kita mendapat informasi berimbang terhadap keadaan. Bagaimana Justin yang membanjiri karyanya dalam orientasi Selena, serta tingkah laku yang ia tunjukkan dinilai sebagai akibat dari lepasnya pengaruh Selena terhadapnya. So it's finally clear, kalau perpisahan juga menghancurkan Selena, tapi ia dengan bermartabat melalui fase yang tak menguntungkan tersebut.
