Single of the Day: Imagine Dragons - I Bet My Life

Yang tengah menyiapkan album keduanya adalah Imagine Dragons. Smoke + Mirros, demikian judulnya yang rencananya akan dirilis bulan Februari ini. Kini mereka menghadirkan single untuk album tersebut, I Bet My Life. Single yang bisa juga menjadi penanda apa yang nantinya dibawakan oleh band gawangan Dan Reynolds ini.

Semangat anthemik masih menjadi andalan Imagine Dragons dalam single ini. Perpaduan ketukan drum yang menggebu dan choir menemani Reynolds bernyanyi. Dengan memadu padankan antara indie-rock dengan folk serta balutan etnik ala tribal Afrika, maka kesan anthemik tadi sukses digali oleh Imagine Dragons, meski di beberapa bagian ia menghadirkan subtlitas yang cukup menyentuh.

Dengan mengusung tema tentang redemption, Imagine Dragons memang tak menghadirkan lagunya dalam irama yang melankolis. Justru dengan dentuman yang intens ia seolah memberi penekanan akan keteguhan akan niat penebusan kesalahan tadi. Tidak heran jika chorus yang mengandung lirik "I bet my life, I bet my life on you" terasa tegas dan kuat.

Single ini didukung oleh video yang tak kalah berkesan pula. Dikerjakan oleh Jodeb, video menampilkan aktor Dane DeHaan sebagai modelnya. Bertema mimpi, dikisahkan karakter yang diperankan DeHaan terlibat perkelahian dengan seorang pria, namun ia kemudian terhanyut di sebuah sungai yang membawanya ke sebuah petualangan surreal. Diakhiri dengan diselamatkan dirinya oleh pria yang tadi menjadi lawan kelahinya. Sebuah narasi yang pas untuk mendukung tema lagunya, bukan?
