Sudah waktunya Ariana Grande tampil mandiri lewat single untuk album studio keduanya, "My Everything". Ini adalah installment keempat dari album peraih nominasi Grammy untuk kategori Best Pop Vocal Album di tahun 2015 ini, setelah sebelumnya ia hadir didampingi oleh Iggy Azalea, Zedd, dan The Weeknd. Aksi berdikari ini ditandai oleh 'One Last Time', lagu yang sudah menonjol sejak "My Everything" dipasarkan menjelang akhir Agustus tahun lalu.
Mengapa menonjol? Alasan utamanya adalah keterlibatan David Guetta di dalamnya. Si penyedia sick beat ini menciptakan moment kebesaran lain untuk Ariana, yang disebut kritik sebagai "excellent addition to her list of hit songs". Tapi campur tangan Guetta hanya sampai disitu, menyediakan bahan sebagai komposisi. Karena eksekusi berada di tangan Savan Kotecha, Giorgio Tuinfort, Rami Yacoub, dan Carl Falk, yang dibantu lagi oleh Ilya. Jumlah mereka bukan menyatakan kemubaziran, karena justru ide dari lima kepala yang membuat 'One Last Time' bercita rasa tinggi.
Ini adalah satu dari tak banyak lagu EDM yang tidak cepat membuat bosan. Potensi tersebut hadir berkat kedinamisan progress musik. Yang lain hanya mengandalkan beratnya hempasan electro, sementara 'One Last Time' memaksimalkan diri pada fungsi penyokong feel yang tercetak dari lirik. Sejatinya, ini merupakan lantunan iba Ariana terhadap sang mantan untuk rela menghabiskan waktu bersama meski bukan untuk selamanya. Selain itu, tercipta pula segenggam moment yang meleluasakan Ariana untuk memamerkan vokal mautnya.
Satu-satunya berita miring yang melanda 'One Last Time' adalah presentasi video yang dituding mencuri ide kreatif paparan video musik oleh sebuah band asal Australia bernama Safia. Tapi dari dulu sepertinya jarang banyak pihak yang setuju dengan ide visual yang Ariana tampilkan dalam video musik-video musik miliknya. Jadi satu kritik lagi bukan faktor penentu yang mematikan kenikmatan lagu-lagunya.
