Released by: Universal Music IndonesiaAwalnya berjudul 'Focus On Me', kini Ariana Grande memutuskan untuk menyingkatnya menjadi 'Focus' saja. Diset sebagai single perdana untuk album ketiganya, "Moonlight", tentunya 'Focus' menawarkan sesuatu yang istimewa. Tidak hanya gegap gempita, namun juga bertugas untuk memberi pernyataan dengan kuat, "mari kita fokus kepada Ariana Grande!".
'Focus' ditulis Grande bersama dengan Savan Kotecha, Peter Svensson, dan Ilya Salmanzadeh. Ilya juga bertugas sebagai produser bersama Max Martin. Keberadaan nama-nama beken di ranah pop ini tentunya sudah menjamin kekuatan 'Focus' sebagai lagu dengan kekuatan prima di sektor ke-catchy-an. Beat ritmis merupakan hasil adopsi dari soul, meski bentukan tubuh 'Focus' pada umumnya adalah pop. 'Focus' sangat mengundang pendengarnya untuk berdansa mengikuti iramanya.
Selintas terdengar seperti perpaduan antara 'Problem' dan 'Bang Bang', yang merupakan salah dua hits terbesar Grande. Tapi tak mengapa kalau memiliki kesamaan warna, karena 'Focus' tetap terdengar berbeda dari dua lagu tadi. Kehadiran barisan trumpet memperkaya nuansa meriah lagunya, disamping hadirnya vokal aktor/penyanyi kenamaan Jamie Foxx sebagai gimmick, dengan repetan "f*ck, f*ck focus on me!"-nya.
Yang patut dicermati adalah vokal Grande yang semakin terdengar powerful. Ia mampu menggerakkan alur 'Focus' sebagai perpaduan antara soul dan pop dengan dance sebagai alasnya. Dan tampaknya ia semakin sadar diri untuk menemukan karakternya sendiri ketimbang melakukan mimikri atas penyanyi lain. 'Focus' semakin mempertegas vokal Grande dalam jati dirinya sendiri.
Jangan lewatkan pula video musiknya. Grande bersama para penari latarnya memang terlihat seperti di dalam video musik K-pop, tapi tetap terasa mencorong berkat tarian atraktif, pamer gadget terbaru, dan tentunya rambut platinum blonde Grande.
