Boyband Union J sepertinya tak luput dari persoalan ditinggal personelnya. Salah satu membernya, George Shelley secara resmi sudah dinyatakan keluar dari kumpulan yang membesarkan namanya tersebut.
Jurubicara Shelley telah mengkonfirmasi hal ini pada Digital Spy, di tengah-tengah berita jika Union J tengah mencari anggota baru. "?It was a mutual decision for George to leave Union J so he could focus on his broadcasting and acting career?," kata perwakikan ?Shelley? tersebut.
Sayangnya, keluarnya Shelley ternyata berimbas pada sebuah konflik yang tersisa antara dirinya dengan Union J. Ada sebuah pernyataan dari jurubicara Shelley yang seolah mengindikasikan telah terjadi friksi di antara Shelley dengan Union J.
"He is an utterly charming and hardworking individual - not a diva in the slightest. The fact of the matter is that the other members of Union J are simply jealous he has achieved the start of an exciting new career and they have not," katanya. "George had agreed to be totally magnanimous towards them, but unfortunately this has not been reciprocated."
Sementara itu, member Union J lain, Jaymi Hensley mengakui pada The Sun jika ia merasa "pahit" akan keluarnya Shelley. "It's heart-breaking. I spoke to him the other day and I said I'm heartbroken over this. I am absolutely devastated. This is taking up all my time and affecting my home life," katanya. "It brings us down. When you turn up to something and the other person can't be there, or they are turning up late. That makes you not love the project. One negative view can ruin it for everyone."
Sebenarnya Shelley memang bukan line-up asli dari Union J. Awalnya boyband ini bernama Triple J dan terdiri atas Josh Cuthbert, JJ Hamblett dan Hensley saat mengikuti ajang X Factor di tahun 2012. Namun kemudian Shelley bergabung ke dalamnya setelah gagal melaju di kategori solo untuk acara yang sama. Dan akhirnya mereka pun memakai nama Union J.
