Sejak merilis The Search for Everything di tahun 2017, kita belum mendengar satupun karya baru dari John Mayer. Finally, he’s back with a new single. Kali ini, John Mayer memproduksi single barunya bersama produser terkenal, No. ID yang lebih banyak bekerja sama dengan musisi hiphop sekaliber JAY-Z atau Kanye West.
Lagu yang CreativeDisc pilih sebagai Single of The Day kali ini berjudul "New Light", balada platonis yang berkisah tentang perjalanan Mayer dalam mengejar seorang wanita yang tidak tertarik, atau kalau kata John Mayer yang percaya diri, belum menyadari perasaannya. Sounds familiar? Ya, ‘New Light’ menyajikan cerita klasik yang sering disampaikan John Mayer; patah hati, friendzone, perasaan terpendam, mencintai dari jauh.
'New Light' memiliki nuansa blue eyed soul dan disco 80s yang kental, dengan drum soundnya Jimmy Buffett sebagai penyokong. Ini kabar baik bagi para fans yang telah menantikan karya terbaru John Mayer. Setidaknya membuat para fans dapat bernafas lega jika idolanya itu berubah ‘gila’ lagi, seperti saat ia merilis album folk, seperti Born & Raised (2012) atau Paradise Valley (2013). Sebelumnya ia juga memposting foto dan artwork yang digunakan untuk mempromosikan single (dan semoga album) di Instagram.
