Single terbaru milik Kris Allen berjudul “The Vision of Love.” Memang, lagunya punya judul yang mirip dengan tembang lawas-nya Mariah Carey. Bahkan, Kris mengaku kalau dia mau tak mau harus menambahkan kata “The” di depan judul lagunya agar orang-orang tidak keliru.
Sebenarnya, “The Vision of Love” milik Kris sangat jauh berbeda dengan hits 80-an tersebut. Pertama-tama, lagu ini bukan balada, melainkan lagu pop/rock upbeat. Kedua, lagu ini punya tema yang lebih luas daripada sekedar kisah cinta antara dua orang. “I’m a positive person,” kata Kris di sebuah interview. Dan “The Vision of Love” sangat tepat menggambarkan personality Kris tersebut.
Di lagu ini Kris bernyanyi, “I don’t wanna run, I don’t wanna hide when someone needs somebody. I don’t want to say I don’t got the time when someone needs somebody” diiringi permainan gitar elekrik ala U2 dan orkestra di background. Kris ingin mengajak pendengarnya untuk ada ketika orang lain membutuhkan bantuan.
Hal ini ditekankan lagi di video musik “The Vision of Love.” Di dalamnya ada karakter cowok yang sedang di-bully dan seorang cewek yang insecure. “When a heart breaks, and the world shakes... When a tear falls, and the fear crawls, will we stand for the vision of love?” pinta Kris dengan falsetto-nya, diiringi gitar akustik yang dimainkan oleh Kris sendiri. “Akankah kita diam saja jika melihat ada teman yang di-bully?” atau “Bisakah kita mengalahkan perasaan rendah diri kita sendiri?” kira-kira begitulah yang ingin ditanyakan Kris.
Lirik yang positif dan beat yang asyik menjadikan “The Vision of Love” sebuah lagu yang uplifting dan dapat memasang senyum di muka pendengarnya. Seruan “Woah-oh-oh-oh” Kris di akhir chorus juga cukup mampu membuat orang berjingkrak-jingkrak.
Kris menulis “The Vision of Love” bersama duo produser Nasri Atweh dan Adam Messinger (Justin Bieber, Chris Brown). Menurutnya lagu ini sangat cocok menjadi single pembuka atau perkenalan untuk album barunya, yang kurang lebih menceritakan soal “visi cinta” Kris sendiri. “[The album is] about love in its best form, love in its crappiest form,” katanya.
