Karir Cher Lloyd sedang menanjak. Setelah merilis albumnya di Amerika dan tergolong sukses, ia siap untuk menggelar tur sekaligus mempersiapkan album studio keduanya. Ketika sepoi-sepoi sahut-menyahut "ooh... ooh..." terdengar, yang terbayang di pikiran adalah 'Dilemma' Nelly dan Kelly Rowland. Kesimpulan saya sih, 'Dilemma' yang terlalu legendaris untuk dilupakan sehingga ketika ada karya setelahnya yang memakai logat menyerupai, maka penyandingan pun terbuat.
Saat Hip Hop berimbas pada pop, keberadaan rapper menjadi sangat sakral. Disini, Cher dibantu oleh T.I. untuk menyelenggarakan peraduan tersebut. Sementara, style dance elektronik melengkapi untuk memberikan beat yang tepat. Voila, 'I Wish' sebenarnya bukan kejutan besar. Mendengarkannya, seperti gaya yang lebih funky dan uptempo dari single sebelumnya, 'Oath'. Yang tak hilang dari Cher adalah setiap lagunya memiliki senyawa bernama youth, yang membuat pendengar bisa terikat dalam daya tarik tersebut.
Citra sassy yang Cher punya terpancar sempurna dari lirik yang terangkai. Kata-kata yang ambisius ia bawakan dengan pelafalan yang cocok, membuat alur cerita jadi believeable. Apa yang ku inginkan, harus ku dapatkan. Itulah kisah disini. Bukan seperti fairytale yang muncul persis seperti apa yang diinginkan, Cher malah ingin ini dan itu supaya dapat menggaet pria idamannya. Sesulit apakah? Well, begitu banyak yang ia harap untuk dimiliki sehingga bisa mendapatkan orang yang ia incar. Lihat nih:

Ini baru separuh dari chorus, maka kalikan dua untuk mendapatkan jumlah yang pas dari pengharapan Cher dalam lagu ini. Tapi di luar itu, harapannya begitu besar supaya lagu ini diterima oleh para pendengar demi kelangsungan karir musiknya. Pasti.
