Untuk ukuran single lepas yang dirilis untuk mengkritisi isu-isu sosial dan kemanuasiaan, 'We Are Here' adalah lagu yang enggak asal buat. Alicia Keys tahu benar bahwa membuat lagu bagus itu adalah sebuah kebutuhan. Selain itu, dengan nama besar yang ia miliki, single ini pasti akan diperhatikan. Menjaga nama baik dan standar kualitas karya adalah perwujudan sempurna dari single ini.

Ingat, Alicia pernah mengeluarkan single 'Speechless' tertuju bagi putranya, Egypt. Dan sebelumnya, ia mengisi soundtrack film "The Amazing Spider-Man" seri kedua. Tak satupun dari mereka terdengar "asal".
Alicia beradu ide kreatif dengan Kasseem Dean, Harold Lilly, Mark Batson, dan Idan Raichel untuk single ini. Ajaibnya, kolaborasi mereka memiliki kecenderungan untuk bercermin pada konsep musik awal Alicia yang agak raw, berdurasi panjang, dan berorientasi pada gospel. Keunikan itu masih bertambah dengan warna dentingan piano yang ia mainkan sebagai bahan dasar pembangunan lagu. Beat drum yang hadir setelah 1/3 lagu menyayatkan ciri khas lain dari penampil yang satu ini.
Saya suka 'We Are Here'. Selain tidak asal, mengembalikan Alicia ke asal, single ini juga memiliki makna yang mendalam mengenai peristiwa-peristiwa yang hadir belakangan yang mengancam hajat hidup orang banyak. Terkonsentrasi pada ebola dan krisis Israel-Palestina, untaian lirik dalam single ini menekankan konsep "You Are Not Alone" secara tegas. Ketegasan itu yang adalah kekuatan, sehingga menampik tuduhan "menyindir" atau sekedar "menggumam". Tak ada janji kosong ataupun harapan palsu dari single ini. Ia justru mengetuk hati dan membuka mata.
