Sebagai single keempat untuk album X, Ed Sheeran merilis ‘Bloodstream‘. Tapi ada yang istimewa di sini karena kali ini Sheeran memutuskan untuk menghadirkan versi remiksnya. Dan yang bertanggung jawab untuk meremiks adalah Rudimental. Single ini juga menjadi andalan untuk album terbaru Rudimental.
Kolaborasi mereka berdua menjadikan sebuah anthem drum n’ bass yang intens, meski tetap mengusung semangat balada aslinya. Beat yeng berderap, bergemuruh dan kemudian meledak dalam chorus mungkin bisa menjadi representasi dari latar belakang pembuatan single ini.
Ditulis oleh Sheeran bersama Rudimental bersama dua anggota Snow Patrol, Johnny McDaid dan Gary Lightbody, lagu berkisah tentang pengalaman Sheeran saat menenggak MDMA saat menghadiri sebuah pesta perkawinan di Ibiza. Pengalaman Sheeran saat “high” itulah yang melandasi pembuatan dari ‘Bloodstream’.
Vokal Sheeran terdengar “sendu” meski ia meneriakkan lirik seperti “Fading out again /I feel the chemicals burn in my bloodstream / So tell me when it kicks in“, sementara Rudimental mengerjakan musik latar yang mendukung eskalasi emosi yang memuncak tinggi. Perpaduan vokal Sheeran dan juga aransemen Rudimental inilah yang menjadi kekuatan dari ‘Bloodstream’.
