MTV Video Music Awards 2016 baru saja selesai dan Beyonce Knowles keluar sebagai peraih piala terbanyak. Sang Diva yang telah mencuri perhatian semenjak hadir di karpet merah sukses membawa pulang sebanyak 8 piala di acara yang berlangsung pada Minggu (Senin pagi waktu Indonesia), 28 Agustus.
Penghargaan tertinggi Video of the Year disabetnya berkat video 'Formation', mengalahkan Adele, Drake, Justin Bieber dan Kanye West, yang sebelumnya sempat mengatakan jika ia tidak masalah dikalahkan oleh Bey.
Bey yang tampil memeriahkan acara dengan barisan medley lagu album "Lemonade" sepanjang 15 menitan itu juga membawa pulang piala Best Female Video untuk 'Hold Up', Best Choreography, Best Pop Video, Best Cinematography dan Best Editing untuk 'Formation', dan Breakthrough Long Form Video untuk visual album "Lemonade".
Drake membawa pulang piala Best Hip Hop untuk 'Hotline Bling' namun tidak bisa menerima secara langsung karena terjebak macetnya lalu lintas. Meski begitu ia berhasil hadir di acara secara tepat waktu untuk menghadirkan Video Vanguard Award kepada Rihanna.
Ada insiden kecil yang cukup mencuri perhatian saat Drake mencoba untuk mencium RiRi, namun sayangnya sang penyanyi menghindar dan akhirnya Drake hanya mencium leher RiRi saja sembari merangkulnya.
Pemenang lain adalah Calvin Harris yang menyabet Best Male Video berkat kolaborasinya bersama RiRi dalam 'This Is What You Came For' dan Best Electronic Video untuk video 'How Deep Is Your Love'.
