Post-Break Up Sex adalah lagu yang pendek saja dari segi durasi, tapi bercerita dengan lugas tentang kisahnya. Dan The Vaccines, kuartet asal London yang terdiri atas Justin Young (vokals), Árni Hjörvar (bass), Freddie Cowan (gitar) dan Pete Robertson (drums) ini, tanpa basa-basi membuka single kedua mereka dari album What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? dengan pernyataan “I can barely look at you, Don’t tell me who you lost it to. Didn’t we say we had a deal? Didn’t I say how bad I feel?”
Dengan tema yang murung, aransemen justru digubah tanpa terkesan melankolis sama sekali. Sebagai sebuah band yang mengusung indie-rock, The Vaccines tentu saja mengolah lagu ini dengan memasukkan unsur-unsur gitar yang distorsif meski tetap dalam nuansa pop yang kental. Vokal Young yang sedikit slengean menambah kesan lagu yang fun dan juga laidback.
Laidback dan santai. Demikianlah Post-Break Up Sex ini sebenarnya. Selintas terdengar sedih dan sentimentil, akan tetapi jelas bukan jenis lagu cengeng yang mendayu-dayu. Tempo yang medium dan sedikit monoton mendukung untuk itu. Karena sederhana dan juga easy listening (meski mengandung materi lirik yang eksplisit), pada akhirnya menyenangkan sekali mendengar Post-Break Up Sex sebagai sebuah anthem post-pop yang adiktif.
Memang menarik mendengar single ini karena dikomposisikan dengan matang juga presisi yang pas. Tampaknya The Vaccines memang menguasai materi yang hendak mereka kerjakan. Namun apakah The Vaccines akan menjadi the next best thing dari ranah musik Inggris yang terkenal memiliki selera musik yang bagus dan berkelas? Kita lihat saja nanti.
