Songbird Yuna Performs for the First Time in Singapore at the Kallang Theatre
Slip away into reverie as Yuna mesmerizes you with her soft vocals and warm acoustic guitar. Performing in Singapore for the first time ever, Yuna’s one-night-only concert will take place in the intimate confines of the Kallang Theatre on 7 November 2012 at 8pm.
Growing up in Malaysia, Yuna was first inspired by the universal appeal of acts such as No Doubt, The Cranberries, and Fiona Apple. She released her self-titled EP in Malaysia in 2008 and the single “Deeper Conversation” became a massive success. It went on to win the title of Best English Song at the 2009 AIM Awards, Malaysia’s national music awards. Yuna swept the ceremony, also garnering Best Pop Song and Song of the Year for her Malay song “Dan Sebenarnya”. Yuna’s success drew the eye of American independent record label, FADER, which flew down to Malaysia to sign her in 2010. She released her first EP under FADER Label, Decorate, in March 2011, which made fans out of critics from Billboard, KEXP, The New York Post, and even Russell Simmons, who called her “an amazing new singer…her music is incredible”. She also received several accolades and acknowledgements from SPIN, Nickelodeon and even MTVIggy, which featured her as a finalist on their “Best New Band in the World” competition at the famous New York Times Square. She has also been featured on late night American shows such as Conan O’Brien. In addition, Yuna was a part of Lollapalooza 2012, performing alongside acts such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Florence + The Machine, Avicii and Sigur Ros. Fueling Yuna’s meteoric rise is her use of social media. Through myspace, Youtube and Facebook, she is emblematic of a new breed of musicians that has risen to fame by harnessing new methods of reaching out to potential fans through social media. Her Facebook page, www.facebook.com/yunamusic, has garnered 1.2 million fans to date.
In January 2012, Yuna released “Live Your Life”, the first single from her recently released full-length album. It started getting airplay immediately on various American radio channels such as Sirius – The Loft, KCRW and KROQ. The music video premiered on MTV2 and was featured on the homepage of VEVO.com. Yuna’s self-titled album, which contains a number of tracks produced by Pharrell Williams, was then released on April 24, 2012 and has steadily garnered attention from music reviewers from around the globe.
